Seminar SEM: "The Water-Decarbonization Nexus: Strategies Across Different Global Powers"

22 de maio 2026

We would like to invite you to join the upcoming event in the Seminar Series on Management and Systems Engineering, hosted by the RCM2+ research centre at Universidade Lusófona.

The event will take place on May 22nd, 2026, from 18:30 to 19:30 (WET| Lisbon time), in Room K4, Espaço Kuadro, with the option to attend online via Teams.

The seminar is titled “The Water- Decarbonization Nexus: Strategies Across Different Global Powers”, and will be led by Dr. Joana Sousa, Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona do Porto.

This seminar will analyse and compare decarbonization policies across four major geographical regions relevant to global decarbonization due to their scale and technological capacity. The presentation will highlight the still underexplored potential of water resources as an “energy vector” for global decarbonization strategies. Topics addressed will cover Europe, Asia, and the USA, focusing on sustainable economy and transport, urban water infrastructure, and ecosystem management as the primary categories of analysis. Furthermore, the program will encompass the analysis of instruments, alongside the Water-Energy-Digitalization nexus and its related efficiency gaps.

Dr. Joana Sousa holds a PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP, 2021). Throughout her career, she has collaborated with several renowned research institutions, including LNEG, INEGI, and the C-TAC research centre at the University of Minho. Her research focuses on energy efficiency, electricity markets, and sustainability in the built environment.

We look forward to your participation in this discussion on the role of water systems in global decarbonization pathways.
