How Robotics and Intelligent Automation are Revolutionizing Warehouse Logistics

9 December, 2024

On November 21, Walter de Britto, Associate Professor at the University of Brasilia, presented a lecture entitled “Robotics in Warehouses: Efficiency and Automation in the Logistics Process” during the 10th Industrial Engineering and Management Conference, an event organized by Professor Raphaela Vidal.

The session, held remotely, brought together students from the Industrial Engineering and Management Course (EGI), teachers and researchers from the RCM2+ Research Center. During his talk, Professor Walter shared his vast experience in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, highlighting how robotization is transforming logistics processes in warehouses, promoting efficiency, precision and automation at every stage, from receiving to shipping goods.

The EGI students showed great interest in the examples presented, such as the use of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Picking and Stacking Robots, among others. As well as understanding the practical applications of these technologies in large warehouses, the participants reflected on the impact on the future of employment and the redefinition of the human role in logistics.

In his talk, Professor Walter stressed that the integration of robots with Artificial Intelligence and advanced sensors is revolutionizing the sector. This evolution not only reduces operational errors and optimizes the use of space, but also offers real-time management, contributing to cost reduction and greater sustainability and competitiveness.

The event reinforced the importance of debates on emerging technologies in the academic and professional spheres, inspiring future engineers to embrace the challenges and opportunities of logistics automation.
