Lecture - Design and Analysis of Real and Simulated Experiments: Introduction and Guidelines

December 7, 2023

On Thursday, December 14, at 4 p.m., as part of the Quality Control subject on the Industrial Engineering and Management degree course, there will be a lecture entitled "Design and Analysis of Real and Simulated Experiments: Introduction and Guidelines", presented by Dr. Nuno Costa, Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal.

Abstract:

Experimenting on a trial-and-error basis is a bad practice, even when the experiments are done in a computational medium, regardless of the area of knowledge in which one is researching or working. Therefore, it is imperative to know if there is any utility in applying the Response Surface Methodology (DoE/RSM), namely in the era of big data and digital twin. In this context, guidelines are suggested for the proper planning, execution and analysis of experiments in real work contexts and by computer (simulated). A new proposal for selecting Pareto (optimal) solutions in problems with multiple objectives is also presented.

Speaker:

Nuno Ricardo Pais Costa is an Adjunct Professor at the Setúbal Polytechnic Institute - Setúbal School of Technology. He is the author of several articles in high-impact journals (Q1-Q2) and book chapters. He has participated and/or presented several papers at international congresses/conferences and has received 5 awards and/or honors in these participations.

Organization:
