Practical class subject of Nanotechnologies and Nanomaterials in DeepTechLab
April 2, 2025

On 24 March, the Master's students in Industrial Engineering and Management at the Faculty of Engineering of Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa had the opportunity to complement their theoretical knowledge with a practical lesson in the subject of Nanotechnologies and Nanomaterials. The session took place at the DeepTechLab (DTL) and was taught by Professor Svitlana Lyubchyk, lecturer on the EGI master's programme and RCM2+ researcher, with the contribution of researcher and DTL member Artem Shylo.
The subject of the lecture was carbon allotropes, materials with great relevance in science and industry. Carbon allotropes are different forms of this element, characterised by different atomic arrangements in the same physical state.
The students explored some of the existing types, such as graphite and graphene, various production methods and their applications in different sectors, including industry. The combination of theory and practice gave the students a deeper understanding of their properties, different uses and the impact of these materials on technology and industrial innovation, reinforcing the importance of nanotechnology and nanomaterials in the present and future of engineering.
