Seminar SEM: “From Farms to Ports: DEA-Based Applications on Sustainable and Resilient Agri-Food Supply Chains”

We would like to invite you to join the upcoming event in the Seminar Series on Management and Systems Engineering, hosted by the RCM2+ research centre at Universidade Lusófona.

The event will take place on June 25th, 2026, from 18:00 to 19:00 (WEST | Lisbon time), in Room K4, Espaço Kuadro, with the option to attend online via Teams.

The seminar is titled “From Farms to Ports: DEA-Based Applications on Sustainable and Resilient Agri-Food Supply Chains”, and will be led by Dr. Paulo Alves Jr., Associate Professor at Universidad Católica del Norte, Chile.

This seminar will explore the application of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to the assessment and improvement of sustainability and resilience across agri-food supply chains. Drawing on a series of research studies developed in recent years, the presentation will examine efficiency and performance challenges associated with agricultural production systems, transportation networks, green corridors, land-use dynamics, and agricultural frontier expansion. Particular attention will be given to the role of quantitative methods in supporting decision-making and policy design for more sustainable and resilient supply chains. Furthermore, the seminar will address the growing importance of logistics infrastructure, including port resilience, in ensuring the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of agri-food systems in an increasingly uncertain global environment.

Dr. Paulo Alves Jr. is an Associate Professor at Universidad Católica del Norte, Chile. His research focuses on operations research, efficiency and productivity analysis, sustainable supply chain management, logistics systems, and the application of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to support decision-making in agricultural, transportation, and infrastructure systems.
