STUDY VISIT TO OGMA
November 10, 2023
On October 26, students from the Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management participated went on a study visit coordinated by Professor Raphaela Vidal, who also accompanied the students, along with Professor Balduíno Mateus. Professor Raphaela Vidal points out the importance of study visits for the student’s training:
"direct contact with industrial reality gives them a real and comprehensive view of an industrial unit in operation and allows them to understand the flow of the work process, both in production and maintenance,"
Find out what the study visit was like from student Arisha Nogueira Afzal:
The group left by bus from Lusofona University, University Center of Lisbon, at 9:30 in the morning, heading for OGMA Aeronautical Industry of Portugal, located in Alverca.
During the trip, the students were very anxious and excited, as they were eager to acquire knowledge looking forward to acquiring knowledge that would be relevant to their courses and future careers. They were curious to know what the world of industry is really like and to observe in practice what they learn in theory, in the classroom. They believed it would be an experience that would have a great impact on their personal and academic development, and so it was.
Upon arriving at OGMA, there was a warm welcome from Mr. João Santos, OGMA's public relations officer, who presented the itinerary of the visit, and accompanied the group throughout, clarifying doubts and providing clear and detailed explanations of how OGMA works clarifying doubts and explaining in a clear and detailed manner how OGMA works.
OGMA provides maintenance, painting, repair, and overhaul services for military and commercial aircraft. It also manufactures aircraft parts. It was a pleasant and interactive visit, where the students asked very insightful pertinent questions. They saw how expensive and difficult it is to maintain aircraft, as well as the importance of project management.
At the end, a group photo was taken to record the moment and the visit came to an end. On the way back to the university, the students were amazed at what they had seen during the visit. In a word, the visit was incredible.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Raphaela Vidal, who coordinated the visit and who gave us this unforgettable moment where we got to know a little more about industrial reality.
