Distinguished Alumni
Bruno Saúde
An exemplary journey
By: Raphaela Vidal
Bruno Saúde, 23 years old, born in Lisbon, graduated with a Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) at Lusófona University in 2020 and then enrolled in a Master’s Degree at another institution.
During his studies, due to his excellent academic path, Bruno was selected to participate in a 3-week exchange at the Catholic University Petra, Surubaya, Indonesia, where he was financially supported by the funds of the RCM2+ (ex-EIGeS). With this opportunity, he interacted with Industrial Engineering and Management students from Asian countries and had the opportunity to visit several factories.
He developed his graduation project at Auchan Retail Portugal on improving processes in retail using Lean methodologies. He left for Erasmus in Germany, at one of the most prestigious universities, the Technical University of Munich, where he gained a passion for the automotive industry. After graduating with a master’s degree, he joined the Volkswagen Auto Europa Trainees Program, where he currently participates.
For Bruno, his academic success is due to his characteristics of resilience, dedication and willpower, which led him to win a Merit Scholarship from Lusófona University in the academic year 2019/2020 and, more recently, he was awarded the Prize of the Portuguese Association of Management and Industrial Engineering (APGEI).
The former student recognizes that the Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management contributed immensely to his training in the area: “The course is very transversal and allows you to approach a range of disciplines that actively prepare us for the job market. The course at Lusófona University was an important step in achieving my goals”.
In addition, Bruno points out:
"The strong relationship between the IEM course professors and the industry allows students to have access to practical cases and real situations. [...] the course develops professionals with theoretical knowledge, but also with some practical knowledge."
In the memories of his time at Lusófona, Bruno refers, with gratitude, to the professors of the Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management, especially those who played important roles in his training, in terms of guidance and unconditional support, namely, Professor Oliveira Santos, Professor Pedro A. Marques and Professor Cristina Guerra.
Three years later, Bruno Saúde's name is still unanimous among all the teachers at the time, once we always have a quality to highlight about his academic journey in the course. We wish Bruno all the best. May you look at the horizon and fly even higher! (and...no doubt he will).
