Industrial Engineering and Management Seminars: Impacts and insights of circular business model outsourcing decisions in textile and fashion waste management

November 27, 2023

As part of the 9th Jornadas de Engenharia e Gestão Industrial, organized by Prof. Raphaela Vidal, on November 24th the lecture entitled "Impacts and insights of outsourcing decisions for circular business models in textile and fashion waste management" was given by Prof. Wesley Silva, from the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL).

The lecture presented a multi-criteria model as an essential tool for helping companies with circular business models or those aspiring to adopt this type of business to make outsourcing decisions. It became clear that circular business models are not compatible with outsourcing that is not guided by the same principles, i.e. if the outsourcing does not respect the precepts of sustainable production from both an environmental and social point of view. It was also shown how the application of this model to real case studies can provide useful insights to support conscious decision-making by those responsible for outsourcing fashion waste management.

An audience of dozens of participants contributed pertinent questions throughout the session that shed light on how the multi-criteria model can integrate and classify the responsibility of decision-makers and provide clear guidance on the best way to manage resources/waste that can be adopted by managers of circular companies.
