"M-SMART", a R&D biometric security technology R&D project

The research and development project entitled “M-SMART” is designing a multifunctional biometric technology to support multiple sectorial applications within the Madeiran society. This project is being developed at the Madeira Living Lab and led by the PoTT (Power of Touch, Technologies) company. It is supported by PROCIENCIA2020, the Madeira Autonomous Region R&DT incentive program.

Three regional companies from the ICT sector, a biometric technology provider from Singapore, and a set of individual investors altogether had created PoTT. The company maintain close linkages with the University of Madeira that is participating in the development of a broad set of e-ID, payment, authentication, secure archiving and biometric signature applications and solutions using a Biometric System on Card.

The whole project was framed by an agreement signed between the promoter and the Regional Government of Madeira.

Professor José Oliveira Santos from the Lusófona University is involved in this pioneering project as its promoter and technical director of PoTT.
