World Quality Day

14 November, 2024

This year, World Quality Day will be celebrated on November 14. Established in 1990 by the UN, this day is celebrated annually on the second Thursday of November and highlights the importance of quality management in organizations, encouraging practices that improve the performance of public, private and social economy entities, with a particular focus on increasing customer and user satisfaction.

On this day, Professor Pedro A. Marques, a specialist in Quality Management, reflects on the future prospects of the area:

“Quality has evolved over the years, moving from an approach initially focused on ensuring product conformity to a vision of excellence in an organization's processes and systems, with a focus on the ability to create value for customers. Today, Quality Management and Engineering is a holistic approach that incorporates principles, best practices, methodologies and tools for an organization to efficiently and effectively develop its planning, control and improvement activities in an interconnected way. How Industry 4.0 technologies will be incorporated into an organization's management systems, along with how they will contribute to evolving the organizational culture through its people, are the challenges of this area of knowledge, now known as Quality 5.0.”

In this context, industrial management engineers play a key role as agents in promoting and guaranteeing quality. Combining technical and strategic knowledge, these professionals are responsible for implementing and perfecting processes that maximize efficiency and minimize waste, ensuring that quality becomes a pillar of organizational culture and a competitive differentiator. By working in an integrated manner between operational and strategic areas, industrial management engineers help organizations reach and exceed the required performance standards, promoting sustainable, future-oriented quality.
